Established near a small Village having a population of 500 known as Yassıhöyük in 1963. Today there is a chronological exhibition in Gordian Museum and every period is represented with characteristic examples.
The museum which houses historical heritage from Adana as well as Çukurova on the whole, was established just after the formation of the Republic, in 1924. Hence, it is one of the oldest ten museums of Turkey.
The museum building located on Ceyhan Street, is one of the traditional Adana houses built in the 19th century. It is a two storey stone building with projections, and a hip roof. Because of these characteristics, the building was registered by our Ministry as a "Immobile Cultural Heritage to be Conserved" and thus taken under protection.
The abandoned church in city center at Kuruköprü which was bult in 1845 was arranged as a museum after 1924. Following the transfer of the material to the new museum building in 1972, the church was restored and has been used as an Ethnography Museum since 1983.

The first museum in Diyarbakır was created in 1934 at the Senceriye (Zinciriye) Medrese (theological school) which is an extension of Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque). It moved to its new premises on Elazığ Street in 1985.
Erzurum Museum which was first founded at Double Minareted Medrese (old theological school) in 1942, moved to its new building in 1967. Its collection was put together with findings from excavations carried out at Erzurum and its environs, purchases, donations and confiscations.
